  • 2010-2011 Community Grant Recipients

    In fiscal year 2010 - 2011, the Lubbock Area Affiliate will grant $350,545.52 to eight agencies who support Komen's mission of a world without breast cancer.  Community grants provide the men and women of the South Plains with breast cancer and/or breast health education, screening, treatment and support services.  Below, please find a brief summary of each agencies program.   

  • Covenant Health System - $89,272.00

    Mobile Mammography - 14th year non-consecutive

    Covenant Health System's Mobile Mammography unit provides screening mammography to women in rural and underserved communities. Mobile Mammography takes a comprehensive approach to care by combining community-based education, mammography screening for early detection and diagnostic followup.                                   

  • Joe Arrington Cancer Center - $23,000.00

    Chorus of Angels Program - 3rd year consecutive

    The Chorus of Angels financial assistance program is designed to alleviate expenses that create barriers to essential treatment for financially vunerable patients of JACC. Expenses for basic needs such as transportation, medication and lodging are covered by the Chorus of Angels program.  

  • Texas AgriLife Extension Services - $15,180.70

    Breast Health in Rural South Plains Communities - 1st year

    Texas AgriLife Extension Services will work to educate older, rural women within the Lubbock Affiliate's 16 county service area about breast health and preventative screenings and to empower them to receive a mammogram through available services.

  • Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center - $24,946.00

    Training Docs for the Cure - 1st year

    Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center will provide a continuing medical education symposium and grand rounds series for physicians devoted to emerging issues in breast cancer screening and early detection.

  • Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Nursing - $54,948.00

    Transformando Su Salud - 1st year

    The Transformando Su Salud program  will reach at least 500 women in Dickens County through the use of a certified Community Health Worker known as a Promotora. The Promotora will deliver one-on-one education and literature to women about early detection. Additionally, 100 women will receive screening referrals as needed. 

  • UMC Foundation & Southwest Cancer Treatment & Research Center - $13,135.00

    Celebrate Today - 1st year

    Celebrate Today will provide supplies, assistance and specialized services to breast cancer patients in the Lubbock Affiliate's service area. Supplies and assistance will include lymphedema support, wigs, transportation and lodging assistance to women with financial. 

     

     

  • The YWCA of Lubbock - $84,661.82

    Breast & Cervical Health Initiative - 14th year non-consecutive

    The YWCA of Lubbock's Breast and Cervical Health Initative is devoted to educating women about early detection.  In addition, the program offers free breast health and breast cancer screening and diagnostic services to medically underserved women in the Lubbock Affiliate's service area.

    Mission and Research History

    In our 16 year history, the Lubbock Area Affiliate has granted more than $2.3 million dollars back to its local 16 county service area.  Additionally, the Lubbock Area Affiliate has contributed more than $600,000 to help fund breast cancer research.
