National Programs
  • BMW – The Ultimate Drive®

This year marks the 12th anniversary of the BMW Ultimate Drive® program, a national breast health outreach campaign where BMW is supporting Susan G. Komen for the Cure. It’s a fun experience and for each test mile driven, $1 will be donated to Komen on behalf of the driver (participation is free!). BMW’s goal again this year is to log up to 1 million miles – and raise $1 million for ending breast cancer. New in 2008: the program features one fleet of test drive vehicles touring the nation, 27 transport drivers needed per event, and several new BMW product launches!

  • Coldwater Creek Try it on for the Cure®

Coldwater Creek stores would like to partner with local Affiliates in their area to promote breast health to their customers and raise funds for the fight against breast cancer. Every Coldwater Creek store will host two Try It On for the Cure® events, one in April and one in September. The next 2008 Try It On will be held in September. For every shopper who visits the store on this date and tries on clothing in the dressing room, $1 will be donated to the local Affiliate. No purchase necessary. One donation will be made per customer. In addition, 10 percent of all merchandise purchases will be donated to the local Affiliate.

  • Cook for the Cure®

Instead of just auctioning off pink KitchenAid products at Komen fundraisers, KitchenAid encourages Affiliates to create Cook for the Cure auction packages that include KitchenAid appliances as well as provide a cooking/food experience for the highest bidder. An experience like this will raise even more money for the Affiliate, get local chefs/food retailers involved and urge others to help raise money for the breast cancer movement through cooking.

The “experience” can be a number of things. Some examples include: recruiting a local chef to donate cooking lessons to a group of five using food donated by a local market, asking a local cheese expert to offer a private cheese tasting and class for two, finding a local chef who will donate an in-home dinner for eight with wine donated from a local spirit shop, etc. Basically any experience involving food and/or cooking could be a Cook for the Cure auction package.

  • USBC Bowl for the Cure®

The goal for Bowl for the Cure® is to raise funds for the Komen for the Cure while educating bowlers about breast cancer screening, treatment and support. USBC asks bowling leagues to designate one session of their choice as a Bowl for the Cure® event. Participating bowlers donate a minimum of a “penny per pin” (or more, if they wish) for their series bowled during the designated Bowl for the Cure® event.

Local bowling associations are also encouraged to team up with Komen Affiliates to conduct a Bowl for the Cure® event in their service area. For more information about Bowl for the Cure®, visit www.bowlforthecure.com. If you would like to plan a Bowl for the Cure event in the Lubbock area, please let us know, and please be sure to designate the Lubbock Area Affiliate as the beneficiary of your fundraising!
